How the first deposit bonus works

You register, verify your age, and fund the account for the first time. If you opted in to a welcome offer, the operator adds bonus balance according to the campaign's rule. That balance sits apart from your own money and is locked behind a wagering requirement; only when the required total of bets has been placed does it turn into withdrawable cash. Until then, the bonus and the winnings it produced can be removed if a rule is broken.

Headlines are often written in the form “100% up to” a cap: the bonus matches your deposit at that percentage until it reaches the cap, and money deposited above the cap earns nothing extra. That form says nothing about wagering, so it is only the starting point for reading the terms.

Proof of age is not a formality in Kenya: the Gambling Control Act 2025 requires a licensee to confirm that a player is an adult before registration and again before paying out a prize. Have your National ID card or passport ready, because a bonus win cannot be paid to an account that has not passed that check.

Is it always worth taking?

Turn the requirement into rounds before deciding. Multiply the bonus by the requirement, then divide by your normal stake. Suppose — purely as an illustration, not as Playmaster's figures — a KSh 2,000 bonus with a 30x requirement: that is KSh 60,000 of bets, or 3,000 spins at a KSh 20 stake. If the deadline is shorter, the offer pushes you towards bigger stakes or longer sessions, and declining it is a perfectly sensible choice; your deposit then stays free of bonus rules.

Volatility matters too. A high-volatility slot can empty a small bonus balance long before the requirement is met, while a steadier game spreads the same balance over more spins. Neither changes the expected loss per spin, but the steadier one is kinder to a fixed deadline.

After the first bonus

Questions new members actually ask

Can I cancel the welcome bonus? Operators usually allow it before the bonus balance is played, through the bonus section or support; after the first bet with it the rules of the offer decide. Will a bigger first deposit give better value? Only up to the cap of the match, and the requirement grows with the bonus, so a deposit in line with your normal budget is the safer plan. Does the 5% excise duty on deposits affect the bonus? The duty applies to the amount credited to your gaming wallet and is withheld by the operator, so ask support or read the terms to see whether the match is calculated on the credited amount.

Sign Up Bonus for New Players

In most cases the sign up bonus is a match bonus: a share of the first deposit added as bonus balance, up to the cap shown in the campaign. A registration bonus is normally credited once the first payment clears, so the bonus on sign up appears only after the deposit, not at the moment the account is created.

If the campaign asks for a promo code on registration, the field is in the sign-up form or the cashier, and it has to be filled before the deposit. Then plan the playthrough in spins and days, and remember that the sign up bonus is for adults 18+ who can afford the deposit without borrowing.
